How It Works
Planetary Gearbox Operating Principle

Sun Gear Receives Input Power
The motor shaft connects directly to the central sun gear, delivering high-speed, low-torque rotational input to the planetary system.
Planet Gears Distribute the Load
Three to six evenly spaced planet gears simultaneously mesh with the sun gear and the internal ring gear, distributing the load across multiple contact points to dramatically increase torque density.
Ring Gear Provides Reaction Force
The internal ring gear is fixed to the housing, acting as a reaction member. Planet gears simultaneously rotate (spin) and orbit (revolve) around the sun gear, generating the speed reduction effect.
Planet Carrier Delivers High Torque Output
The planet carrier supports all planet gears and rotates at the orbital speed of the planets, driving the output shaft at reduced speed and multiplied torque — completing the gear reduction.
Multi-Stage Cascading for Higher Ratios
Connecting the carrier of one stage to the sun gear of the next creates a multi-stage planetary series (2–4 stages), achieving overall gear ratios from 3 up to 10,000 : 1 to suit any application.

Why Choose a Planetary Gearbox?
Ultra-high torque density
With multiple planetary gears evenly distributing the load, it can transmit 3 to 5 times more torque than traditional parallel shaft reducers within the same volume, significantly reducing the overall size of the equipment.
Transmission efficiency ≥ 97%
The carburizing and hardening grinding process achieves a tooth surface accuracy of ISO 5, resulting in extremely low meshing loss and a single-stage transmission efficiency of up to 97%, significantly reducing operating energy consumption.
Low backlash and high precision
The precision planetary series boasts a backlash of ≤ 3 arcmin, ensuring high repeatability and meeting the stringent precision requirements of applications such as servo drives and robot joints.
Compact coaxial design
Input and output shafts are arranged coaxially, with small radial dimensions and short axial length, making it easy to integrate into various compact mechatronics design solutions.
High Shock Resistance & Long Life
Rigid one-piece planet carrier withstands peak shock torques up to 3× rated load. Lifetime-sealed lubrication ensures ≥ 20,000 hours of service with zero maintenance.
Modular & Customizable
Output flanges, mounting styles, input interfaces, and lubrication types are all configurable on request. IEC/NEMA motor flange direct-mount adapters available for all series.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I select the correct gear ratio for my application?
Gear ratio selection involves three key steps:
- ① Divide the required load output torque by the motor rated torque (include a safety factor of 1.5–2.0);
- ② Calculate output speed = motor speed ÷ gear ratio;
- ③ Verify that the motor and gearbox thermal power rating is compatible at the chosen ratio.
We recommend using our free Excel selection tool, or contacting a technical engineer for guided selection support.
What is backlash, and how does it affect my application?
Backlash is the angular play at the output shaft when the input is reversed, measured in arcminutes (arcmin). The lower the backlash, the higher the reversal accuracy. For precision positioning (robotics, CNC), choose ≤ 5 arcmin from our Precision Series. General drive applications can accept ≤ 15 arcmin without issue. Excess backlash leads to cumulative positioning errors that degrade machining and motion accuracy.
Do you offer customization, and what is the minimum order quantity?
Yes — we support deep customization including output flange dimensions, input interface type (IEC/NEMA motor flange), mounting style (foot / flange / suspended), lubrication type (food-grade / low-temperature / high-temperature), and surface color & labeling. Standard stock models have no MOQ restriction. Custom models typically require a minimum of 5 units; exact terms are confirmed at the time of quotation.
Do planetary gearboxes require periodic lubrication oil changes?
Standard series gearboxes use a lifetime-sealed lubrication design — no re-greasing or oil changes are required under normal operating conditions, with a service life of ≥ 20,000 hours. Heavy-duty series operating under extreme conditions (high temperature, high speed, high-frequency vibration) should have the grease inspected and replenished every 8,000 hours or 2 years. Refer to the lubrication specification table in the supplied maintenance manua
How do I confirm compatibility between a gearbox and my servo motor?
Check four key points:
- ① Motor output flange size (IEC 63/71/80/90/100 or NEMA 17/23/34) matches the gearbox input flange;
- ② Motor shaft diameter matches the gearbox input bore;
- ③ Motor rated torque is within the gearbox’s rated input torque range;
- ④ Motor speed (typically 1500 / 3000 rpm) is within the gearbox maximum input speed.
Send us your motor model number and we will confirm a compatible configuration within 24 hours.
What are your lead times and shipping options?
Standard stock models ship within 3–5 business days via DHL / FedEx international express with global coverage. Custom models typically ship in 15–25 business days depending on complexity. Large-volume project orders can be covered by a blanket purchase agreement with pre-stocked inventory. All orders include online shipment tracking and full export documentation (CIQ, Certificate of Origin, etc.).
